Five of the six Green Councillors: L-R Steve McKenna, Hal Brown, Sue Sinden, Ruth Ritter and Jonathan Essex
We’re celebrating big wins in this week’s local elections.
We now have six councillors on Reigate & Banstead Council, where the whole council was re-elected following boundary changes.
We won all three seats in Earlswood & Whitebushes, where we previously held one. The ward is now represented by Hal Brown, Ruth Ritter and Sue Fenton.
And we won all three seats in Redhill East, where Sue Sinden joins Jonathan Essex and Steve McKenna on the Council.
We also had two near misses: in South Park & Woodhatch Lynne Burnham missed being electing by just 33 votes, and in Horley East & Salfords Simon Pinto was 62 votes short.
The lead opposition party
In all but one ward where the Conservatives won, the Greens came second, cementing our position as the lead opposition party in Reigate & Banstead.
Campaign organiser Sarah Finch said, “We are thrilled with the results. With a bigger team, our Councillors can have even more impact as they press for action on climate change, better transport and recycling, genuinely affordable homes and community facilities, and a fairer society. They will provide strong and constructive opposition on the Conservative-dominated Council.”
“We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who voted Green. And a massive thank you too to everyone who helped with the campaign. It was a huge team effort.”
