Council tax benefit changes: have your say

Reigate and Banstead Council is asking for local people’s views on changes to Council Tax benefits .

The consultation is happening because the Government has decided to scrap the current Council Tax Benefit scheme as part of its wider welfare cuts. This means that local authorities like ours are having to design their own schemes to support people on low incomes.

In addition, as of April 2013 the Government is cutting the funding it provides to  local authorities for Council Tax support by 10% .

This means Reigate & Banstead will have around £700,000 less to spend.

The Council wants to hear residents’ views on its proposals.  It has written to people who are directly affected and held consultation sessions and there is an online questionnaire.  You don’t have to be receiving Council Tax benefit to respond – all Reigate & Banstead residents can have your say.

Reigate & Banstead Green Party will be submitting our own response to the changes and we encourage everyone to read the proposals and give your views – by 23 October.
