A night shelter for homeless people has been set up as a collaboration between local churches and local charity Hope2540.
The shelter is open for six weeks, running until the end of January. It offers homeless people an evening meal and breakfast and safe, comfortable overnight accommodation, as well as washing facilities and a chance to chat.
The shelter rotates between local churches, with Wednesday to Saturday nights at the Salvation Army in Redhill.
Could you help?
Volunteers are needed to help with everything from talking to the guests to cooking, washing up or shopping. You can volunteer for just one session, or a regular slot.
Seven volunteers are needed each evening and four overnight, with an extra two or three coming in the morning to serve breakfast and clear up.
See www.hope2540.co.uk to find out more or offer support.
Greens are responding to the Council’s homelessness strategy. We are concened about the rising number of homeless people locally – and about the potential impacts of the cut in housing benefit for young people in 2012.
